Three details separate a hand-finished piece from a machine-made one. Here is what to look for.
Hand-knotted buttons
Aakad
Each button is tied by hand, one at a time, down the full length of the closure. A machine-made dress uses plastic snaps.
Hand-stitched silk trim
Sfifa
A fine silk braid is sewn by hand along every seam and edge. It is what gives the piece its finished line, and it cannot be glued or printed.
The fitted belt
Mdamma
Made from the same fabric and embroidered to match, it draws the waist and gives the piece its shape. Every takchita comes with its own.
